Welcome to Grade 7 & 8 Math and Science

Hello and welcome! My name is Ms. Zavala, and I am excited to be teaching Grade 7 and 8 Math and Science this year.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and General Humanities and have spent the past eight years teaching music. My experience in the arts has helped me develop a classroom environment that values creativity, curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful connections between subjects. I believe that all students can learn and grow when they are supported, challenged, and encouraged to take risks in their learning.

My teaching philosophy is grounded in a humanistic approach to education. I strive to build positive relationships with students, foster a sense of belonging, and create a classroom where every learner feels respected and valued. I believe students learn best when they feel safe, engaged, and empowered to take ownership of their learning.

In Math and Science, students will be encouraged to ask questions, solve problems, collaborate with others, and apply their learning to real-world situations. My goal is to help students develop confidence, perseverance, and a growth mindset while building the knowledge and skills they need for future success.

Throughout the year, PowerSchool will be updated regularly with summative assessment results so that students and families can monitor academic progress. I encourage students and parents/guardians to check PowerSchool frequently and to reach out if they have any questions or concerns.

I will also use Google Classroom for the everyday activities, class notes, due dates and detailed description of assignments and homework.

I look forward to a wonderful year of learning, discovery, and growth together!
